Restoration information on Willy MB 425051

9/26/2007

I have owned this jeep since November 1998.  The poor jeep hasn't changed much since I bought it.  It has been moved from location to location.  Has had the restoration started multiple times only to get interrupted because of a move or no where to work on it or store it.  It has been left to sit outside for a year when I didn't have a shop to work on it.  But luckily 2007 has been a great year for this jeep.  A friend has opened up his shop to me and my jeep.  So now I have the room to work on it, access to all the tools I need and someone that is kicking me in the rear to get this done.

With the jeep now in a secure location I stripped it back down to the frame and started the restoration process over again.  The axles had a once over again, replacing seals, bearings and whatever I else that needed worked.  All the spring bolts and shackles were replaced.  July of 2007 I ordered more need parts along with 3 reproduction combat rims to go with my two original rims.  As of September 2007 I have a rolling chassis with the motor and transmission/transfer case ready to go back in.  My next hurdle is doing some major work to the original tub.

I had the option of buying a reproduction tub for my jeep or saving my original.  I opted to save the tub and instead bought the reproduction panels I need to fix mine.  I picked up the rear panel, front and rear floor, and driver side panel from the shovel/axe well to the rear quarter panel.  As I start this part of the project, I will do my best to keep a running report on this.   This is going to be a learning experience for me as I have not done this kind of work before.  I will also attempt to replace the rear inner fenders with another set of inner fenders from another jeep body.  Sometime in this jeeps life it was ether rear ended or hit by something because the sides of the inner fenders and the rear floor had been crumpled up only to be cut and pounded back into shape and welded up.

So keep checking in on the progress of this jeep.  Hopefully by this time next year I will be out enjoying my jeep. ~NAH
