BASIC MOVEMENTS OF

DODGING (SABAKI) IN CHANBARA

 (using short sword - Kodachi)

Hikiashi

(pulling the leg back)

Shitachi attacks Uchitachi's front leg (ashi ate). Uchitachi pulls his leg back.

Ashiage

(lifting leg)

Shitachi hits Uchitachi's front leg (ashi ate).

Uchitachi dodges the attack raising the leg.

Soriyoke

(swaying)

Shitachi hits with mawashi ate (naname uchi, kesa giri) to Uchitachi's left shoulder using a large and slow swing.

Uchitachi sways the upper part of the body backwards  without moving the legs.

Dohikiyoke

(drawing back the torso)

Shitachi attacks aiming at the side of Uchitachi's abdomen (do ate, do kiri). Uchitachi dodges the attack drawing back the torso without moving his legs.

Huseyoke

(ducking)

Shitachi attacks at Uchitachi's head (mayokokiri, yokomen).

Uchitachi ducks out of the line of attack protecting the head with Kodachi.
