Angler Lands State Record Brown TroutBRANSON,
MO Missouri angler Bryan Chapman was recently fishing
with his son on Lake Taneycomo when he hooked a state
record brown trout."I
thought I was snagged on the bottom, Chapman says. I
didn't understand what was going on.Just
as the fish came up next to Chapman's boat, however, his
line broke. Quick action with a landing net prevented it
from escaping .Missouri Department of Conservation (DOC)
employee James Civiello later certified the fish's
weight at 27 pounds. Chapman's catch tops Missouri's
previous record brown trout, a 26-pound, 13-ounce fish
caught on Bull Shoals Lake in 1997.

Missouri Noodlers Want Hand fishing
Area Expanded-A
group calling itself Noodlers' Anonymous is asking the Missouri
Department of Conservation (MDC) and the state Legislature to
expand hand fishing, or noodling, opportunities for catfish.
The MDC
recently approved an experimental noodling season (hand fishing had
never been legal for cats in Missouri), which begins this summer
along limited stretches of the Mississippi, St. Francis and Fabius
rivers. Noodlers, however, feel the area open to hand fishing is
too small, thus concentrating all of the state's would-be noodlers
on the same waters. The
MDC says while it will make every attempt to address the concerns
of hand fishermen, it must also work to balance their demands with
a constitutional mandate to protect Missouri's fish and wildlife.

Missouri's
Department of Conservation Has
launched a 10-year management plan to increase the number of large
bluegills (longer than 9 inches) in selected bodies of water.
Fisheries
managers will choose lakes with the best potential to produce big
bluegills and test different management strategies/regulations to
see which result in the best fishing
