| Carp - Dough Bait |
|
This dough bait was told to me by {Jungle} Jim Roberts back in the early 70's. Jim was an old river rat from up on the grand river in Bedford Missouri and him and his wife Lucile used to can carp every year, and of course Jim had a secret dough bait that they used. I was about 12 and Jim took me under his wing to show me what fish' in was all about, you remember, your young and you get the deep end of the seine. Anyway Jim would use cotton seed cakes on bank lines for a week and when it wasn't to hot we would go rod & reel fishing. Well in a weeks time we would catch at least 100 lbs of carp for Lucile to can, she was busy all day every day. The best part was catching those carp on rod&reel and big one as I recall 3-10 ponders and even what Jim called a German carp that had scales the size of a silver dollar [ I haven't seen one since. That was the best bait and has always worked for me. So here it is-

Let cool and put in zip lock bags and freeze. This will make enough for the summer about 5-6 bags with 2-3 cups in each. It is best to keep in cooler while you fish, It stays on better and longer this way and best of all it wont come off when you cast. I use #6 treble hooks with a spring around the shank. So make a batch and take a youngster out for a day they wont soon forget , I haven't. And this may not be a big secret bait anymore since Jim and Lucile always helped who they could and I was just one of the many. Both are gone now but never forgotten and so I pass on what he gave me, the recipe for fun. TAKE A CHILD FISHING YOU COULD CHANGE HIS OR HER LIFE. Mark Israel Springfield, Mo. |
