Khwarezmshahs

Il Arslan bin Atsiz

551-67 AH [1156-72 AD]

1

This Dinar has Afghan style of epigraphy and cites Il Arsalan as Great Sultan. Early Ghorids had allied themselves with Khwarezmshahs in order to counter Ghaznavid-Seljuk alliance. This coin was issued at Herat in 551 AH  probably by Ghorids  in the name of Il Arsalan Khwarezmshah as their overlord. Otherwise there is no record in history of Herat ever being occupied by Il Arsalan.

AV Dinar - mint= Herat -date illegible but minted in c551 AH -
