Mom, I had a chat with Jesus and he told me of His home
Where streets are paved of jasper and there's castles built for some
He told me of the many crowns stored up to the chosen few
Maybe one could be mine to keep if only I would stay true
Mom, I had a chat with Jesus and
I wondered how much he knew
Of how I had forsaken him and
failed, to Him, to be true
He couldn't know, not really know,
just how much I had strayed
For if he had known all I'd done
he would be dismayed
Mom, I had a chat with Jesus and
He talked to me so long
It was as if he had all day, Oh,
how much I've done wrong.
He reminded me of Heaven and Hell,
and all the things I'd learned
When I was but a little child
and no, it couldn't be earned
Mom, I had a chat with Jesus and
we walked on through the sand
He knows my passion for music
and so he told me of
His band For, He has a mighty
angel band and they served Him day and night
But "Amazing Grace" they cannot
sing, trying as they might
Mom, I had a chat with Jesus and
then he took me by the hand
He let me know that yes, he knew
of my struggle to make a stand
Confused and inadequate are some
of my thoughts, salvation was just a wish
"Commit thy works onto the Lord,
and thy thoughts shall be established"
Mom, I had a chat with Jesus and
he told me of my fate
Of how my life will end some day
and that I mustn't wait
Stepping out on faith, He said,
He'll catch me if I fall
I must accept what he has offered
on Him I have to call
Mom, I had a chat with Jesus and
I told him of my ways
Of all my thoughts, my errors,
my sins from all my days
He told me that he already knew
and that I must learn to lean
So now in Him I'm going to trust.
The power of God I have seen.
So Mom, will you meet me ar the
door just like you use to??
We'll sit at the foot of the throne
together. Just Jesus, me and you
The two of us to worship him,
forever to know His love
Where all the saints shall gather
'round and worship him above
Until then Lord, I'll stand by
you, the solid rock of ages
With faith I'll know I'm welcomed
there, you've already paid my wages
For those of you who do not know
him, He has one thing to say
"Be still and know that I am God"
and He will lead your way.
