...a necessary introduction...

What's going on?
It's been a long time since the last issue of Flaming Flag was published and distributed. Number five hit the shelves last October with a small print run. We made several decisions since then:
    -  We need to print more copies.
    -  The quality needs to be improved.
    -  The content needs to include more creative submissions.
    -  We need to start taking advertisements.
This long anticipated issue was the answer. The print run has expanded from around two hundred to one thousand. The format has improved, with real binding and newsprint. And we finally have advertising. The excuse I can give you for the lateness of this issue is the lack of submissions. We don't want to spend $300 to print a magazine that doesn't have any content. Hopefully, you will agree that the wait was worth it. And now for the real meat...
What does the American flag represent?
The old stars & stripes has been flown in America since 1777. It has stars representing each of the states in the union and stripes emphasizing the original thirteen. In 1782, the colors of the flag were given meaning. As the Congress of the Confederation designed the Great Seal of the United States it resolved the following: Red stands for hardiness and courage. Purity and innocence are represented by white. And blue symbolizes vigilance, perseverance, and justice. Since then, people have often associated the flag with liberty.
So, why does Flaming Flag support flag burning?
When the star spangled banner becomes soiled in one way or another, it is customary for Americans to properly dispose of it. The practice usually involves burning the flag. America has ignored the ideas their flag represents. America's countless acts of injustice toward its people and the people of other nations have soiled the flag by going against its symbols. America has lost any courage it may have once had. The cowardly American system exploits and regulates smaller countries to the point where they are unable to defend themselves or keep their people out of poverty. This just leaves white, which symbolizes innocence, a value long forgotten by the American system. America is guilty of causing the deaths and the poverty of millions across the world. For these reasons, we must properly dispose of the flag, by burning it. We seek a better system that is just and honest and courageous.
What does Flaming Flag actually stand for?
Flaming Flag is a strong supporter of independence. Our magazine seeks to gather the ideas and creations of our world's independent thinkers. The magazine also stands for justice and liberation. The usual content of Flaming Flag includes articles that call for social justice and political fairness. Though we often print articles supporting anarchy and other causes, it should be clear that the articles do not necessarily represent the views or ideas of the magazine as a whole. Flaming Flag only endorses independent thought, justice, and liberation. Flaming Flag should be considered a forum for people to express their ideas and creative writing and art. We welcome the support and submissions from anyone who wishes to get involved. Your support and contributions are vital to the survival of this magazine.
