Introduction

On the 17th of June 1970 an agreement was signed by the Government of Fiji and the Order of St. Gabriel on the establishment and operation of Montfort Boys' Town. The Fiji government through the Ministry of Education has contributed more than half a million Fiji dollars towards the physical development of Montfort Boys' Town and it continues to meet 60 percent of operational costs.

The boys at Montfort Boys' Town

Montfort Boys' Town can take up to 144 boys. They come from all parts of Fiji, including Routoma and the outer islands, and from all races and religous denomination. A general education of Form IV and aged between 15 to 18 years old are the conditions for admission. Selection is made depending on their social and financial conditions. Priority is given to orphans, boys from broken families, school leavers and the ones who are very poor.
