But it didn't used to be like that. Before, he worked at a discount store called S-Mart. When he and his girlfriend decided to go up to a cabin for a weekend, they discovered an archaeologist studying a book there. The Necronomicon Ex Mortis. The book of the dead. A book bound in human flesh and written in blood. After reciting certain lines in the book, Ash inadvertently released a great evil that took his girlfriend. Ash then, unfortunately had to kill his girlfriend.

But it didn't stop there.

It got into his hand, and it went bad. So he loped off his own hand at the wrist. Then it came back. Big time. While trying to defeat the evil, it was made into the flesh then a time portal opened and sucked the evil in, along with Ash and his Oldsmobile back to around the year 1300 A.D.

After being captured by King Arthur for being one of Duke Henry's men, Ash goes off in search of the Necronomicon. Before that, though, Ash got himself a new metallic hand made by the blacksmith. Ash then goes to the graveyard to recover the Necronomicon.

While in the graveyard, strange things happen. A bunch of little Ash's torture him, and a second, evil Ash starts growing out of his shoulder. After seemingly defeating the evil Ash, he takes the Necronomicon, but not before saying the magic words. Being Ash, he forgets to say every single, tiny syllable so now the book was useless. While escaping from the graveyard, bones start to reanimate and try to kill him.

Next, the evil Ash has risen from the dead and gathered an army of dead people called Deadites (The Army of Darkness). The evil Ash now goes and attacks Ash and the townspeople in the castle, but not before Ash has time to prepare. He uses science to destroy the Deadites and protect the Necronomicon.

Ash then takes a potion which takes him back to his own time. But a Deadite has followed him. In a final battle in S-Mart, Ash kills the Deadite and kisses his girlfriend. Hail to the king, baby,
